Audio File Size Calculator

Calculate PCM/WAV audio size, data rate, storage per hour and exact byte totals.

PCM / WAV storage estimate

Data rate
โ€” kbps
Storage / hour
โ€” MB
This calculates the PCM audio payload. Actual WAV/AIFF files can contain small container headers and metadata, so the final file can be slightly larger.

Formula

PCM bytes = sample rate ร— (bit depth รท 8) ร— channels ร— duration in seconds. Decimal MB uses 1,000,000 bytes; MiB uses 1,048,576 bytes. This makes the unit convention explicit instead of mixing MB and MiB.

How to use this calculator

What to enter

Enter or select the following as requested: Sample rate; Bit depth; Channels; Duration (minutes). Follow the units, valid ranges, examples, and options displayed beside each field.

What the result means

The audio result calculates or estimates timing, pitch, tempo, frequency, bitrate, or storage from the sound and session settings entered. Check sample rate, bit depth, channel count, codec, tempo, beat unit, and whether latency is measured as a one-way or round-trip value.

When to use it

Use this when planning a recording, editing audio, syncing sound, or estimating media size. Actual results depend on the device, audio interface, codec, buffer settings, and project configuration, so verify critical timing or compatibility in the target setup.
